How I Structure and Practice Self-Care as a Founder

Structure Is the Foundation

To thrive as a founder, I believe you must create a structure for yourself the same way you create a structure for your business. When we build a company, we start with a clear model, a blueprint that guides every decision. We trust that structure and remain consistent with it. I approach my life with the same mindset.

Just as I carefully select high-quality materials for every piece we create at thowby, I remind myself that I am also an asset of the business, perhaps the most important one. If I want the brand to operate with clarity, care, and excellence, I must also protect my own energy and well-being.

For me, self-care as a founder begins with structure.

The Power of Delegation and Trust

One of the earliest lessons I learned in building a business is that you cannot carry everything on your own. The strength of a company lies in the people behind it. I believe deeply in hiring individuals who are exceptional at what they do and trusting them with responsibility.

But before I delegate anything, I always make sure I set the standard first. I want my team to see the level of care and attention that goes into every step of the process, from the softness of our linen abayas to the detail in every stitch. As a founder, I remain present throughout the entire chain of work. I oversee, I guide, and I make sure everything aligns with the vision.

However, presence does not mean control.

Once the standard is clear, I trust my team to do what they are best at, the very reason they were brought into the company. This balance allows the business to operate smoothly without depending on me for every small decision.

In many ways, this is the first and most important form of self-care for a founder.

When your business has a strong structure and responsibilities are properly delegated, a significant amount of pressure disappears. You remove unnecessary stress from your daily life. Peace of mind becomes possible because the business is built to function on a system rather than constant urgency.

I have learned that the way a business is structured directly affects the mental state of the founder. When things run smoothly, it creates space for the other parts of life that matter just as much.

Family First: Without Guilt

Family is one of those priorities.

As a woman founder, this is something I feel strongly about. I never want women to believe they must choose between building a business and being present for their children. The two should not exist in conflict.

When your company runs on a clear blueprint of belief, it allows you to step away when needed and be present for your family without guilt. Those moments are grounding. They remind me why balance is so important in the first place.

Nourishing the Body and Mind

Another pillar of my self-care routine is health.

I try to be mindful about what I eat and keep my diet clean and simple. What we put into our bodies affects how we think, how we work, and how we move through the day. As founders, we often live at a fast pace, but nourishing our bodies is what allows us to maintain that pace with clarity.

Movement also plays an important role in my routine. I enjoy walking because it gives me time to think and reset. Some of the clearest ideas come when the mind is quiet and the body is in motion. Reading is another habit I hold close. It expands my perspective and keeps me curious, much like how our embroidery abayas reflect a constant pursuit of beauty and detail.

Faith as an Anchor

Faith is equally important in how I practice self-care.

No matter how much effort we put into our work, I always remind myself that everything ultimately comes from God. Staying connected to my faith keeps me grounded and centered. It allows me to approach both success and challenges with patience and gratitude.

When faith is strong, the noise of daily pressures becomes quieter.

Small Rituals, Big Impact

And then there are the smaller rituals that help me slow down and reconnect with myself. One of the simplest is my skincare routine. I like using castor oil on my face, something natural and uncomplicated. It is a small moment in the day where I pause and take care of myself in a gentle way. In the same spirit, I love wrapping myself in the quiet luxury of our velvet abayas, a simple reminder that comfort and elegance can coexist.

These small rituals might seem insignificant, but they remind me that self-care does not have to be elaborate. Often, it is simply about consistency and intention.

Building a Business That Takes Care of You Too

Being a founder is a journey filled with responsibility, creativity, and constant growth. But I have learned that the business can only flourish when the person behind it is also taken care of.

That is why structure remains the foundation of everything I do.

When your business is built on clear systems, when your team is trusted, when your health and faith are protected, and when you make time for the people you love, self-care becomes part of your leadership rather than something separate from it.

For me, that balance is what allows both the business and the person behind it to grow together. If you are curious about the brand built on these values, explore our latest new arrivals or discover our Silk Abayas, crafted with the same care and intention I bring to everything I do.
