Your thowby abaya is thoughtfully crafted with quality fabrics and details. Proper care will help preserve its appearance, shape, and finish for years to come.
Our collections include a variety of fabrics, colors, embroidery, embellishments, and delicate details, each of which may require different care.
Always follow the care label attached to your individual abaya first, as care requirements may vary depending on the fabric and design.
WASHING
Use a mild detergent suitable for delicate fabrics and avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or strong chemicals, as these may damage the fabric, color, embroidery, or embellishments.
Dry Cleaning
If the care label states “Dry Clean Only,” we recommend taking your abaya to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling delicate garments.
Linen and embroidered thowby abayas should be professionally dry cleaned unless otherwise stated on the individual care label.
Gentle Machine Wash
If your care label allows machine washing, turn the abaya inside out and place it in a protective laundry bag. Wash separately in cold water using a gentle cycle and mild detergent.
Once washed, remove the abaya promptly and allow it to dry naturally away from direct sunlight.
Hand Wash
If hand washing is permitted on the care label, gently wash the abaya in cold water using a mild detergent suitable for delicate fabrics. Avoid vigorous rubbing, twisting, or wringing.
Rinse thoroughly and allow the abaya to dry naturally away from direct sunlight.
PRESSING & STEAMING
Where permitted by the care label, press or steam your abaya inside out to help protect the fabric, color, embroidery, and embellishments.
Use a low to medium heat setting and always test a small, inconspicuous area first.
A garment steamer is often suitable for gently removing wrinkles from delicate fabrics. If using an iron, consider placing a clean pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric for additional protection.
STORING
Hang your abaya on a suitable padded or broad hanger to help maintain its shape and minimize creasing.
Whenever possible, allow the full length of the abaya to hang freely rather than folding it for extended periods.
Store your abaya in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to help protect its color and fabric.
A breathable garment bag can provide additional protection from dust during storage.
