Follow these abaya care instructions to keep your robes in good condition for years to come.
WASHING
First things first, use a detergent specifically formulated for abaya fabrics when washing your garments. Very harsh detergents or chemicals like bleach can damage an abaya’s fabric or embellishments.
Always check the care instructions on your abaya label to know the best washing method for that specific piece.
- Dry Clean: If your abaya label says "dry clean only," it is essential to follow this instruction and take it to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling delicate fabrics. Using alternative methods to clean such an abaya will cause damage. Please take note that Linen and embroidered abayas should always be send to dry clean.
- Gentle Machine Wash: For abayas that can be machine washed, turn them inside out or place them in a protective basket before putting it into the washing machine. Opt for cold water and the gentlest cycle for a maximum of 5 minutes. Once the cycle is complete, promptly remove your abaya from the machine and lay it flat to dry.
- Hand Wash: To wash your abaya by hand, agitate your abaya in cold water and using abaya-specific detergent, focus on specific areas to clean dirt, stains, and odors as necessary. Rinse the abaya thoroughly and lay it flat to dry, avoiding direct sunlight.
PRESSING
- Always press or steam your abaya inside out to prevent color fading and pressing marks.
- Before using wide strokes to press your abaya, use a low to medium heat setting on your iron and test it on a small area first.
- It is highly recommended to use a cloth steamer or iron with a delicate fabric guard to protect your abaya from excessive heat.
- If you can, use a heated metal plate for ironing for optimal results.
- Gently smoothing out wrinkles and creases, and remember to press carefully around any embellishments on your abaya.
STORING
- Hang your abaya on a padded hanger to maintain its shape and prevent stretching. It is best to allow the full length of the abaya to hang down, to avoid fold creases.
- Store your abaya in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and discoloration.
- Consider using garment bags to protect your abaya from dust and moths during storage.
